The Colac Vets only had nine riders race in very wintry conditions for their monthly medal.

Back markers made up the majority of the field with only one middle marker in Peter Theodore and one limit rider in Des Read.

Last week’s second scratch winner Mark Purdie went back to the scratch mark.

But the second scratch bunch held scratch at bay for the second week in a row to get up and take the win again.

Tony Prytz turned up to race just his fifth race with the vets this year and put in a solid ride to claim his first monthly medal since 1996.

Arno van der Schans finished second with Heather Hamling in third.

Scratch came in a couple of minutes later to take the time by 54 seconds with Larry Nocera taking fastest time over Mark Purdie and Gavin O’Brien.

There will be no club race this week with Warrnambool hosting a race at Dixie.

The Colac Vets had a small field of ten riders for their club race.

Riders were lucky to have a break in the bad weather over the weekend by having a rain free race, although it was cold with a strong westerly wind.

Lone limit rider Des Read had a 20-minute start on the next three riders and 30 minutes back to the three scratchmen.

The three second scratch riders had a 3-minute start on the scratchmen and were evenly matched against them for majority of the race.

Pre-race favourite Steve Hamling was unlucky to puncture just before his second scratch bunch made the catch to the three riders off the ten-minute mark and Des Read.

Coming in to Factory Road at Cororooke five riders were left to contest the finish.

Mark Purdie claimed the win from just his fourth start this year ahead of Heather Hamling and Len Murfitt.

The scratchmen came in a couple of minutes later and saved the time by 20 seconds with Larry Nocera taking his first fastest time ahead of Andrew Pownceby and Gavin O’Brien.

The Colac Vets had a field of fifteen riders for their club race.

Riders raced in sunny conditions but had a very strong northerly to contend with.

The field was split in to five bunches with the two limit riders getting a 28-minute start over the four scratchmen.

The 11-minute trio caught the two 13-minute riders at the 10Km mark.

This group went on to reel in the two limit riders and go on to hold off the back markers.

Rebecca Luppino claimed her first win for the year ahead of Bruce Roberts, Len Murfitt and Gerard Hickey.

A fast finishing Tony Luppino broke clear of his scratch co-markers in the final few kilometres to catch the four second scratch riders with 600 metres to go.

Luppino came in fifth place 36 seconds behind the winner to take fastest time.

The Colac Vets had another small field for their club race with only ten riders turning up for the monthly medal.

Conditions were a little bit warmer by the start time than the previous few weeks but riders had reasonably strong northerly winds to contend with.

The second scratch bunch had four riders and Tony Luppino the lone scratchman had to chase two and a half minutes to them.

The second scratch foursome rounded up the three 9-minute riders with 14Km to go and the two 23-minute limit riders one kilometre later.

With 4Km to go Mark Purdie put in a surge leaving five riders to contend the finish.

After coming over Lineen’s hill and heading down to the finish line Purdie again put in another surge which was followed an attack by Arno van der Schans.

Coming in to the sprint Larry Nocera came off van der Schans’ wheel and held off Ralph Iselt to take his first monthly medal and third win for the year.

Rebecca Luppino finished well to get past van der Schans and Purdie to steal third place.

Nocera’s win gives him a commanding lead in the aggregate with a 20-point buffer over second placed Bruce Roberts.

Tony Luppino put in a strong solo ride to come in 54 seconds behind the winner to take fastest time.

There will be no racing this coming Sunday with the next club race on the 5th of August.

The Colac Vets had a small field of twelve riders racing in cool conditions with clear skies and light winds for their club race.

The field was split into four bunches.

Tony Luppino was in sizzling form and along with his two co markers had the race sewn up by the 36Km mark.

Only three other riders stayed with the three scratchmen to the finish.

Luppino claimed his third win this year and all from his last five starts.

Larry Nocera finished second with Gavin O’Brien in third place.

The Colac Vets had only 30 entries for their combine race with the Geelong and Warrnambool clubs at Cororooke.

With the bad weather only 24 riders ended up starting the race.

The field was split into four bunches plus lone limit rider Des Read out on the 30 minute mark.

Three riders from the 10 minute bunch rode away from their co markers and caught the three remaining riders from the 14 minute bunch.

This group of six riders went on to finish just under two minutes ahead of the back markers.

Geelong riders took the first three places with Gerard Hickey the first Colac rider coming in fifth place.

The five scratchmen caught the four remaining second scratch riders 3Km from the finish.

Tony Luppino took fastest time ahead of Nick Brown and Larry Nocera.

July 1st 2018

The Colac Vets had a field of sixteen riders racing in cool and calm conditions for their club race.

The two limit riders were given a 23 minute start on the four scratchmen with three bunches in between them.

The 8 minute trio caught the 11 minute trio at the 27km mark.

This group of six then rounded up the two limit riders at looked likely winners.

But the four second scratch riders were steadily making ground on this group in the last few kilometres.

Turning into Factory Rd with less than 2Km to go the leaders pace was not quick enough allowing the second scratch foursome to catch them just 250 metres from the finish line.

Arno van der Schans started off the sprint catching the leaders by surprise.

But Heather Hamling came off his wheel to take her first win in just over two years.

Mark Purdie having his second race for the year pushed through for second place with van der Schans hanging on for third place.

The scratchmen came in over a minute behind with Tony Luppino taking fastest time.

This week the club will host the Ted Taylor Memorial with riders from Geelong and Warrnambool competing.
