The Colac Vets had eighteen riders racing in good conditions for their monthly medal.
The back three bunches made up two thirds of the field which was to have an impact on the outcome of the race.
The front three bunches only had six riders with Murray Matthews having just his third race with the Vets this year sent off the 32-minute mark on his own.
The three scratchmen made short work of their 2-minute chase to the next bunch of five riders, which had lost Steve Hamling early with mechanical problems.
They caught them at the 20Km mark and then caught the 4.30-minute bunch of four riders 7Km later.
Starting the second of two laps, two more riders dropped off, still leaving a group of nine riders to takes turns of pace.
The 12- and 27-minute bunches, which had combined, were caught with 5Km to go.
At this point Damian Luppino started off with a small attack resulting in a couple more from the scratchmen stretching out the field.
Heading up Lineen’s hill Grant Oates launched his attack with Tony Luppino jumping across to him straight away.
Oates attacked again but could not shake off Luppino.
Luppino was able to beat Oates to the line to take his second monthly medal this year.
The next four riders who were 150 metres back fought out for third place with Ralph Iselt taking the sprint.
Matthews was unlucky to be caught with about 1Km to go.
There will be no club race this week with the Geelong club hosting their open at Paraparap.

The Colac Vets had a field of 38 riders for the Red Rock Classic raced with the Geelong and Warrnambool clubs.
Riders started in ideal conditions but steady light rain began early in the race and persisted throughout the race.
The only plus was that there was no wind to speak of which made the race easier than previous years.
The 18 minute bunch rode better than expected and four of them along with two riders from the 24 minute bunch made it to the top of Red Rock with nearly 3 minutes to spare over the 6 and 10 minute bunches.
Warrnambool’s Clive Coomber finished first ahead of Geelong’s David Spence and Colac’s Bruce Roberts.
Scratch finished five and a half minutes behind the winner with Colac’s Tony Luppino taking fastest time ahead of Geelong’s Andrew Goodwin and Warrnambool’s Peter Greig.
There will be no club race this week with Warrnambool hosting their open race at Dixie.
